Most of these strategies don't compete — they combine. A typical stack is: buy a discounted gift card, pay with it through a cashback-tracked visit, and earn rewards on the payment method you used to buy the card. Each layer is a few percent on its own; together they regularly knock 10%+ off a shop you were doing anyway.
